A long overdue update
Posted by Kevin Haden in Gig Tales, Start the Tape on July 20, 2011
Just finished two great teaching sessions. Congrats to all the students for completing WMAS at NYU!
Relived the J-Gro experience for a minute this past Saturday at Peanut Butter Blues Cafe in Allendale, NJ. I wasn’t expecting to perform, but I should’ve known better. When I go see Mike Clifford play I usually end up on stage with him. It was an easy sell this time since it had been so long since we last performed together and because it was at the place where it all started. Peanut Butter Blues Cafe is located where Beantowne used to be. I didn’t realize that until I got there. Memories…
Thank you Charlie Feldman for inviting me to perform at BMI’s 7 World Trade Festival on July 1st. I was in the same showcase as Chris Barron (Spin Doctors) who went on two slots after me and played all his hits from the 90′s solo acoustic. He sounded great, just like his records. Very cool.
Thanks to the lovely folks at Lola’s Tea House, one of my favorite intimate venues, for having The Kevin Haden Trio back this past June.
Thanks to all y’all that keep buying my music. I enjoy not starving to death
Volume II is rolling along. I’m trying to limit it to 12 tracks, but it’s so hard to choose. My songs are like children. Been doing a lot of collaboration. In particular I’ve been working with a couple of great cowriters, Alex Forbes and Billy Seidman.
Thinking about booking a handful of performances before the year is out so stay tuned

CUMC Concert
Posted by Kevin Haden in Gig Tales on August 18, 2010
What a great concert this past Saturday! Even thought I was really looking forward to it, it still managed to exceed my expectations. The audience was warm and receptive. Rev. Thompson was an incredibly gracious host. Can’t wait to do it again

Final Night at UnWINEd…
Posted by Kevin Haden in Gig Tales on June 28, 2010
… was unreal. I’m really gonna miss that place. On to the next, I guess… Looking to have a new regular spot by September. Stay tuned.
Way Behind… Let’s start with Sarasota.

Two weeks ago, I had an awesome time performing in Sarasota, FL. I will definitely have to make a return trip, perhaps before the end of the summer. Thanks to the folks at Box Social for letting me and the Florida Studio Theatre crew take over Tuesday’s open mic night. Also thanks to Carmela for the warm welcome at Pastry Art Cafe. Mega huge thanks to Drunken Poet Cafe for letting me throw down two monster sets on Friday night. Last but certainly not least… thanks to all the new friends and fans I met. You help keep me going.
By the way… I met a very talented Florda singer songwriter by the name of Reggie Williams. He’s definitely worth going out of your way to hear.

Last Night’s Relay for Life in Mt. Vernon
Posted by Kevin Haden in Gig Tales on June 12, 2010
Last night , after a lengthy delay (typical of large festival like benefit concerts) I had the pleasure of performing at the Mt. Vernon Relay for Life. It was a wonderful opportunity to perform for an incredibly worthy cause. If you have a minute and little extra cash, consider donating at the link above to help fight cancer. Thanks to all of you who came out to support both the cause and me.

Two Gigs. One Night.
Posted by Kevin Haden in Gig Tales on March 21, 2010
Double duty last night. A few familiar faces at UnWINEd, which is always nice to see. My apologies to the party there that wanted us to play later. Had to get to gig #2 by 11, which was a benefit event at Eight Mile Creek for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society. Your disappointment was for a worthy cause. All in all, 3 1/2 hours of singing and I’m no worse for wear. Thanks, voice teachers.

Richie Havens
Posted by Kevin Haden in Gig Tales, Other People's Music on January 11, 2010
It’s funny… probably every artist at some point has been told by enthusiastic listeners that he/she sounds like or reminds them of another artist. Sometimes they’re right on the money. Sometimes they’re drunk. I’ve heard everything from Sam Cooke (flattered, humbled) to “dude, you sound just like Ben Folds!” (drunk). By the 5th or 6th time I hear the same name from different people I figure it’s worth investigating. Last night it was Richie Havens whom ironically I had a chance to see in Toronto last June, but declined because I was a little low on funds and didn’t know enough about him.
So here I go… about to embark on an explorative journey through Richie Haven’s musical catalogue, which will likely result in a few new cover tunes at Symphony Space on Saturday nights.

Oceanside Concert Series
Posted by Kevin Haden in Gig Tales on January 11, 2010
I had a wonderful experience performing at the Oceanside Concert Series last night on Long Island. The audience was incredibly warm and receptive. Special thanks to all those who purchased cds. There may be a video clip or two in the coming days. Thanks to Donny Jones for the invite and to Michelle Pruiett and Gina Milo for being gracious enough to share the stage.

The show at FAB this past Wednesday was great. The room sounded wonderful and the food was delicious. Tiffany and I will perform there again on Wednesday, December 9th. Thanks to all those who came. Special thanks to those who purchased cds at or after the show.
Reminder… No show at UnWINEd tonight
See you next time.
